What Are Veneers?
Veneers are the thin tooth-colored material aimed to cover the front surface of a tooth to improve its appearance. These veneers are useful in cases such as:
- Discolouration of teeth.
- Worn-down teeth.
- Mild misalignment of teeth (instead of having to go through 12-24 months of orthodontic treatment to correct the same problem).
- Closing the midline gap between the front teeth, also known as a diastema.
Porcelain (Indirect) Veneer
For a porcelain veneer, we use an iTero scanner to take scans to send to the lab. The iTero scanner delivers a digital impression that is much more accurate than a routine dental impression. This impression is used to prepare an accurate porcelain veneer.
Composite Veneer
A composite veneer is similar to a porcelain veneer. It is a thin layer of material placed over a tooth either to improve the appearance of a tooth or to protect the tooth surface from damage. The prepared teeth surface will be bonded using tooth coloured filling material also known as composite (instead of ceramic). This means that treatment can be completed on the same day of the appointment without the need for laboratory production time.
