What is a Crown?

A dental crown is a tooth-like cap placed over a tooth to restore its original shape, size and appearance. Crowns are useful for restoring a broken tooth as well as improving the appearance of teeth in cases such as stained or misaligned teeth.

When Do You Need to Use a Crown?

There are several scenarios when your dentist may recommend that you have a crown fitted. Some of these include:

  • To protect a tooth that is likely to break due to weakness or injury
  • To restore a tooth that has been fractured or chipped
  • To replace a large filling, especially when there is little tooth structure remaining
  • To hold a dental bridge in the correct position

Treatment Method

In the first appointment, we use iTero scanner to take scans (digital impressions) and send it to the lab so that we can have a crown designed and built. Then, a temporary crown is placed on the tooth to protect it from further damage. We have different methods of doing this because every tooth is unique.

At the second appointment (approximately two weeks later), your dentist will remove the temporary crown or bridge. Then fit and cement the permanent one onto your prepared tooth.

We provide expert guidance and treatment for dental crown implants
