Crowns and Bridges

A dental crown is a tooth-like cap placed over a tooth to restore its original shape, size and appearance. Crowns are useful for restoring a broken down tooth as well as to improve appearance of teeth in cases such as stained or misaligned teeth.

In the first appointment, we prepare your tooth and take a mould (impression) so that we can have a crown designed and built in our laboratory, then a temporary crown is placed on the tooth to protect it from further damage, we have different methods of doing this because every tooth is unique.

At the second appointment (approximately 2 weeks later), your dentist will remove the temporary crown or bridge, then fit and cement the permanent one onto your prepared tooth.

Dental bridges, like the name suggests replace missing teeth by placing crowns on the adjacent teeth in order to provide support for the artificial teeth.
A bridge is an alternative solution for replacing missing teeth. It requires shaping and reducing the teeth directly next to the gap (missing tooth), especially in cases where adjacent teeth are heavily damaged.

The two crowns (bridge) which are joined by an artificial replacement tooth is then fitted and cemented onto the prepared teeth.

Both crown and bridge procedures typically require 2 appointments as they are similar procedures.

Porcelain (Indirect) Veneer

Thin tooth-coloured material aimed to cover the front surface of tooth in order to improve the appearance. These veneers are useful in cases such as:

  • Discolouration of teeth
  • Worn down teeth
  • Mild misalignment of teeth instead of having to go through 12-24 months’ worth of orthodontic treatment to correct the same problem
  • Closing the midline gap between the front teeth, also known as diastema Teeth are first prepared and molds will be taken and sent to the laboratory for manufacturing. The porcelain veneers are then cemented onto the front surface

Composite (Direct) Veneer

A composite veneer is similar to a porcelain veneer. It is a thin layer of material placed over a tooth, either to improve the appearance of a tooth or to protect the tooth’s surface from damage.

The prepared tooth surface will be bonded using tooth coloured filling material also known as composite instead of ceramic.

This means that treatment can be completed on the same day of the appointment without the need of laboratory production time.
